You have to conjugate the verb you have between brackets in either Indefinido (check the conjugations in GC: is the past tense we use to just communicate what was the main action, the action that makes the story to continue) or imperfecto (the past tense we use with the concept of USED TO: it gives the context of the main action, description and habitude in the past)
