One of the key benefits is understanding the use of how phobias can be acquired and therefore . The study demonstrates that individuals can acquire phobias via conditioning , therefore techniques such as can be used to - condition the phobias . Research suggests that this has been very effective for specific fears . e . g and the reduction of flying phobias .

The research has proven positive in ASSISTING in regards to the use of conditioning techniques . By making behaviour more ? ? it should make them more likely to be by society , thus allowing them to participate more and therefore assist the economy in terms of gaining .

However , conditioning strategies could also have a negative impact on society . the frequent use of rewards may lead to a society whereby some people are only motivated by FACTORS , therefore meaning society may become more and less . ( could site the evidence we did on the debates in terms of use in education )

Further positive applications have been the use of conditioning in Rewards and incentives are used in education to increase outcomes . et al ( 2010 ) reviewed a programme in USA , where children were offered financial incentives to improve , resulting in gains in performance . Therefore , using conditioning techniques could benefit society because school leavers would feel more educated .

However , a criticism of this is that incentive programmes in education do not always have a return on investment . According to et al ( 2011 ) many schools and education authorities are operating on a budget and therefore it is questionable as to whether it is ethical to pay or reward students for their performance when money could be spent elsewhere .

In conclusion , Watson and Raynor ? s study despite being extremely unethical and would not be allowed to be conducted . However , it has had some positive implications to society in its applications and the principles can be adopted in numerous areas e . g . education .
