Explanation

The most versatile active articulator, involved in producing every vowel and almost every consonant. Remember to identify its three key regions: Apex (the tip of the tongue) Front (the blade of the tongue) Back (the dorsum of the tongue)

Where air passes to produce oral sounds when the velum is raised to completely block access to the nasal passage.

Passive articulators (particularly the upper teeth) that help obstruct airflow when touched by active articulators like the tongue or lower lip.

The small dangling appendage at the very back of the soft palate; it acts as an active articulator in producing nasal or guttural sounds but remains passive in other sounds.

The actual physical space between the vocal folds. It is wide open during normal breathing and voiceless sounds, resulting in glottal silence.
