My grandfather has a chronic knee condition that sometimes makes it difficult for him to walk long distances , but he never lets it stop him from enjoying life . Every month , he visits the local to pick up his medication and ask the pharmacist for advice . Whenever we go on a trip , he carries a large filled with hot herbal tea because he believes it helps him stay hydrated and comfortable . During one doctor's appointment , we learned that a can enter the human body through contaminated food or water , which is why washing fruits and vegetables is so important . We also discussed several processes , such as how the immune system protects us from diseases and how healthy habits strengthen our bodies . Since then , my family has become much more careful about food safety and personal hygiene . 3 Our school recently organized a Science Week to encourage students to explore different areas of science . During the weather presentation , the teacher demonstrated how a measures air pressure and helps meteorologists predict changes in the weather . Later , we watched a documentary that was across the country to celebrate young scientists and their discoveries . After the video , students worked in pairs to prepare a short about how communities should respond to natural disasters . The geology teacher then explained several processes , including how earthquakes , volcanoes , and the movement of tectonic plates slowly shape the Earth's surface over millions of years . Before leaving the school , we observed a bright red outside the building , and a firefighter explained how it provides a reliable source of water during emergencies . By the end of the day , we realized that science is not only interesting but also useful in our daily lives .
