Explanation

This tracks whether you pay your bills on time. It is the largest factor in your credit score. Consistently paying on time shows lenders how dependable and trustworthy you are with money. Setting up automatic payments or calendar reminders to avoid missing due dates is a good credit-building habit

This is the percentage of available credit that you are using. It is calculated using the following formula: Current Balance/Credit Limit x 100 Example: If you have $1,000 of available credit and you use $500, your credit utilization is 50%. Using too much of your available credit can make lenders think you're relying heavily on borrowed money, even if you pay your bill. A good credit-building habit is to keep your credit utilization below 30%

This measures how long you've been using credit, including the age of your oldest account and the average age of all your accounts. A longer history gives lenders more information about how you've managed credit over time. Someone who's responsibly used the same credit card for six years will likely have a better score than someone who opened their first card six months ago. A good credit-building habit is to keep your oldest credit account open unless there's a good reason to close it

This refers to the different types of credit accounts you manage, such as credit cards, auto loans, student loans, or mortgages. Managing different types of credit responsibly shows lenders you can handle a variety of financial responsibilities. Don't open new accounts just to improve your credit mix. It will happen naturally over time

New credit looks at how many new credit accounts you've opened and how often you've recently applied for credit. Applying for several accounts in a short period may signal financial stress or increased borrowing risk. Applying for four different credit cards in one month may temporarily lower your score. A good credit-building habit is to only apply for credit when you actually need it, instead of applying for multiple accounts at once

The lower your score, the more expensive it will be to borrow money. Lenders make borrowing more expensive to compensate for the higher risk.
