Forest cities

Forest bathing is a thing . It refers to taking a walk in the forest for health benefits . Taking this time to be conscious of one's surroundings can aid in relaxation , improve one's mood and even boost one's immune system . Being immersed in a forest while using all of one's senses is beneficial . Nowadays , cities are heeding this information since air pollution is a major issue around the world . It is predicted that two thirds of the global population will be urban by the year 2050 ; therefore , city life needs to be . This type of focuses on enhancing greenery and flora in cities .

The government in Singapore is getting in on this green revolution . It has added more greenery to the city in order to enhance its aesthetic value . Supertree Groove is a man - made mechanical forest containing 18 'trees' that are actually vertical gardens . The trees are structures made out of concrete and steel . Eleven of these Supertrees are fitted with solar panels that are used to power the nighttime lighting and help with the watering systems that use collected rainwater . The feature was designed to draw in tourists while providing shade for Singapore's oppressive heat . It was created as an eco - tourist destination since it uses sustainable practices and a variety of plants and flowers .

In China , where air pollution is a huge problem , Italian architect Stefano Boeri dreams of green . Boeri is known for his vertical forest skyscraper in Milan , Italy . Now , Boeri has created a plan for two towers in an urban Chinese environment . But he has also created a blueprint for an entire forest city project in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing . He wants to get rid of the degradation and smog stigma associated with this area . Since the latter is a city scheme , it is more complex since buildings come in all shapes and sizes . In reality , entire forest cities are needed in order to make a dent in China's pollution problems . Green architecture has to be a mainstream all around the country , but it needs to start somewhere so other cities and buildings have a model to follow . Sustainable cities seem like they could help issues that stem from the expanding urban sprawl .

Another option when cities don't have the space to plant greenery is the 'CityTree' . This is a mobile system which works to remove pollution from the air . These installations ? which benefiting the environment the same way 275 real trees would ? have been used in Oslo , Paris , Brussels , and Hong Kong . The truth is , they are not even trees , they are actually moss . Since moss has a larger leaf surface than other plants , more pollutants can be trapped by it . It is pretty awesome that these installations capture greenhouse gases . Each one costs $25 , 000 , so they are quite an investment for a city !

Greening up cities comes with a steep price tag . Would money be better spent preventing pollution by cleaning up problems , like local city bus emissions ? Nowadays , vertical forests are all the rage . People can also include these ideas in their homes . Vertical gardens are growing in popularity on kitchen and outdoor walls of houses around the world . Greenery does not only positively affect the environment , but it also makes people feel good . Adding more vegetation to cities is the wave of the future .
