According to a recent report by The Open University , there are a number of ways that social media can transform learning and development in a company . These include : knowledge , identifying experts within the organization , peer to peer support , and supporting self - directed learning . It can also be used to help employees prepare for and learning from training courses . What makes it so for employers is its ease of use , making it simple for colleagues to communicate with each other as well for the company to communicate with an employee .

The report gives some useful tips for anyone considering using social media as part of their training program :
