The late nineteenth century inventions deeply changed the relationship between worker and ( 1 ) . Professional ( 2 ) were no longer required as in the past and workers became more anonymous and interchangeable . In the 1910s Frederick Wilson Taylor , an American mechanical engineer , - theorized a system to achieve maximum industrial ( 3 ) and labour productivity . His theory , also known as Scientific Management¹ , claimed that the various - tasks within the factory had to be fragmented into simple ( 4 ) , each of which had to be performed by an operator and repeated in given fixed times and ways , and in accordance with the machine . It was up to the management to determine the best method to complete each task through a ( 5 ) and motion study , to - train the worker in this method and keep individual - records for - incentive based pay . It was one of the earliest attempts to apply ( 6 ) , or better a scientific method , to working processes and to their management . The first to use Taylorism in a factory was Henry Ford , the US - entrepreneur and ( 7 ) of Ford's - car company . Ford decided to apply Taylor's model to the production of his Ford - T cars in his Chicago factory in 1913 . The pieces to be - assembled were - slide onto a - track and each worker was - assigned the ( 8 ) of a single operation that was always the same . In this way the ( 9 ) line was created and it was there to stay for a long time , spreading all over the world in the following decades . Thanks to this new system , Ford transformed the automobile from a - luxury object for only an - élite into a ( 10 ) product , deeply influencing the history and the economy of the twentieth century .
