It's very hard to imagine the horrors of the Middle Passage. Many of those who suffered and died had their voices silenced by history. While we cannot truly know their full experience, we can try to understand some of their pain and despair by focusing on the small details that bring their story closer.

Read the journal entry below, written from the perspective of someone captured and forced onto a slave ship. Some words are missing.
