Hot dry summers and cool wet winters make up the climate for this biome. The soil is rocky. The only place in the United States to find this biome is in southwestern California.

The most diverse of all biomes. It is warm and rainy year-round.

Moisture-retaining plants such as cacti, shrubs, and thorny trees are the primary vegetation. Kangaroo rats and lizards are typical animals.

This biome covers most of the eastern half of the United States. There is plentiful rainfall, very fertile soil, and deciduous and evergreen trees.

This biome covers most of Canada. The soil is acidic.

This biome has the most fertile soil of all biomes. Precipitation is low with warm summers and cold winters.

This biome has distinct rainy and dry seasons. Gazelles, giraffes, and lions are typical animals. Tall grasses, some trees, and thorny shrubs are the most common vegetation.

Mosses, lichens, sedges, and dwarf trees are the common vegetation. Rabbits, lemmings, reindeer, and caribou are typical animals.

It is cold year-round in this biome. Animals that depend on the sea, such as penguins, other birds, and seals make their homes here. The vegetation consists of few mosses and lichens in coastal areas.
