Citizenship

Citizenship

Citizenship is the set of rights and duties to which the citizen or individual is subject in their relationship with the society in which they live. The term citizenship comes from the Latin civitas, meaning ' city '. Therefore, citizenship is the condition that is given to the citizen of being a member of an organized community.

Citizenship implies rights and duties that must be fulfilled by the citizen, knowing that those will be responsible for the coexistence of the individual in society.

This concept of citizenship is linked to the law, especially in terms of political rights, without which the individual cannot intervene in the affairs of the State, and which allow the direct or indirect participation of the individual in the government and in the Consequent administration through direct vote to elect or to compete on public charges indirectly.

Suffragettes

Suffragettes

Traditionally and historically, women, like children or servants, had no citizenship whatsoever. It is not until the first quarter of the TWENTIETH century that women's rights in the political arena, such as female suffrage, begin to be recognised, and when women acquire a full-fledged citizenship situation in most countries.

Citizen participation

Citizen participation

Citizenship requires the individual, as an inhabitant of the city (as the root of the word says), who fulfils his duties, and who, as an individual of action, carries out his tasks for his good and also for the development of the community in which he lives , as the problems of the city should be a concern of all citizens.

Citizenship is exercised by the people, groups and institutions that, through training, i.e. through the power they have to perform the tasks without the need of authorization or permission of someone.

Citizen actions should cause changes that lead to evolve and strengthen, participating in communities, social policies and NGOS (non-governmental organizations) actively through volunteering, where actions are carried out Solidarity for the good of the population excluded from the conditions of citizenship.
