An example of this is that in The Hunger Games, Katniss's father has died. 6 Depicts the conflict that forces the character to face their own inner demons or shortcomings. 7 The protagonist declares his outer motivations and his/her pursuit of those goals begins. (motivation is what drives the character’s actions towards the goal) 8 Bildungsroman, coming-of-age, maturation 9 They find their inner strength, face down their fear and learn they can rely on themselves.
