This slide show challenge will facilitate the process of increasing awareness about opportunities related to experiential and co-curricular learning, networking and engagement opportunities and financial savings perks.

Save Money - Tip #1

Question: Which department oversees student scholarships?

Clue: Approximately 169 scholarships worth more than $350,000 are available for the 2018-2019 academic year. Two scholarships with preference for UIS online students include the Leadership Human Services Scholarship and the Grace Brorström Oakley Scholarship. To learn more about UIS scholarships, visit this department’s website for specific opportunities and important deadlines.

Save Money - Tip #2

Question: Name the service that offers free and discounted software applications for UIS students and the software that allows users to access a virtual computer that runs all UIS licensed software. (two answers required) 

Service Clue : This service can significantly discount over 350 software applications and software training courses. Choose “personal” Purchase Type and log in with your UIS NetID and Password. (Tip: Office 365 download is free for UIS students)

Plan for Your Future - Tip #3

Question: What department offers  services for career exploration and planning?

Clue: This department offers a variety of services, resources, and events to assist online students in working toward their career and professional development goals. For example, distance career counseling offers the convenience of being able to work with a career counselor regardless of your location. The CareerConnect system is available from a distance and encompasses a variety of career exploration tools and software, opportunities to search and apply for jobs and internships, and register for online career development seminars, special events and counseling appointments.

Plan for Your Future - Tip #4

Question: What department can assist with informing me about how to gain relevant experience for academic credit while in enrolled at UIS?

Clue: Online students can gain relevant experience by completing an approved internship at a location of their choosing.  Online students should follow the same steps as any other student for obtaining an internship and registering for the internship course.

Plan for Your Future - Tip #5

Question: What co-curricular activity enables me to conduct research and present findings while communicating with a diverse audience?

Clue: This two-day event in April (apply in November) provides all students (even those living at a distance) an opportunity to participate in research activities and present findings via oral or poster presentations. Question: What is the name of the “professional” social media platform where I can network and learn about UIS Alumni and their career paths  (where they live, where they work, and what they do)?

Clue: UIS has created a university page on this "professional" social media platform. Students can research UIS Alumni by title, keyword, company, and year. This resource is primarily used to access a professional network, identify job listings, connect with recruiters, and research company/industry information and trends. (A free account is required.)

Select "Learn about Alumni" link to access social media platform. On social media homepage search "University of Illinois Springfield" and select “Alumni” tab.

  • News Source #1: The Journal is the editorially independent student newspaper at UIS. Their mission is to publish news and feature stories, editorial and opinions relevant to the campus community. 
  • News Source #2: UIS Online, an e-newsletter for online students and alumni, is written in partnership by the Office of Advancement and COLRS.

Question: The Office of Electronic Media works in partnership with various campus departments to provide content online. Name the four sources.

Clue:
  • Source #1 provides videos and live streaming for training, education, social media, and much more. 
  • Source #2 enables you to view a large number of University events are recorded and stored for public viewing such as U of I Board of Trustees meetings, UIS music, athletic events, SGA meetings, ECCE events and more for FREE viewing.
  • Source #3 allows you to view live University events and provides a list of upcoming live events so you can plan to view in advance.
  • Source #4 is streamed online 24-hours a day and provides the campus community to publicize photos, videos, announcements, and information pertaining to university events.
