Slide 1: What the digestive system does

The digestive system turns food into usable energy. It breaks down meals, absorbs nutrients, and removes waste from the body. Think of it as a long, busy tube inside you.

2

Slide 2: The mouth and saliva

Food enters the mouth, where teeth chew to break it apart. Saliva softens and starts digestion, making swallowing easier and helping enzymes begin breaking down starches.

3

Slide 3: The esophagus and peristalsis

The esophagus moves food down using wave-like contractions called peristalsis. Muscular squeezing pushes the bolus toward the stomach with rhythm and force.

4

Slide 4: The stomach’s role

The stomach mixes food with stomach acid and enzymes. This turns it into a semi-liquid substance called chyme, which then moves into the small intestine for absorption.

5

Slide 5: The small intestine and villi

The small intestine absorbs nutrients through tiny finger-like structures called villi. Nutrients pass into the bloodstream to fuel your body, while leftovers move on.

6

Slide 6: The liver, gallbladder, and pancreas

These organs produce and store chemicals that help digestion. The liver makes bile, the gallbladder stores it, and the pancreas releases enzymes to break fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.

7

Slide 7: The large intestine

The large intestine absorbs water and electrolytes. It forms solid waste (stool) and houses friendly bacteria that aid digestion and health.

8

Slide 8: Digestive process overview

Ingestion → mechanical and chemical digestion → absorption in the small intestine → water absorption in the large intestine → elimination as waste.

9

Slide 9: Tips for a healthy gut

Chew slowly, eat fiber-rich foods, stay hydrated, and limit processed snacks. Regular exercise supports healthy digestion and helps prevent discomfort.

10

Slide 10: Quick recap

Key parts: mouth, esophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, liver, gallbladder, pancreas. Functions: digestion, absorption, and waste elimination.
