Descriptive text is a text that describes a particular person, place, animal, or thing by explaining its characteristics, appearance, qualities, or features so that readers can imagine it clearly. 2 The Social Function of Descriptive Text To describe a specific person, place, animal, or thing. To give detailed information about its characteristics. To help readers visualize the object being described. 3 Generic Structure of Descriptive Text 1. Identification Purpose: Introduces the person, place, animal, or thing. Tells the reader what will be described. Gives general information about the object. 2. Description Purpose: Describes the object in detail. Helps the reader imagine the object clearly. 4 Language Features of Descriptive Text 1. Adjective Adjectives are words that describe or give more information about a noun. Example : My classroom is clean and tidy 2. Pronoun Pronouns are words that replace nouns to avoid repetition. Example : Alya is my best friend. She is kind and helpful. 3. Nouns Nouns are words that name people, places, animals, or things. Example : The library has many interesting books. 4. Adverbs Adverbs describe verbs, adjectives, or other adverbs. Example : She always helps her classmates. 5. Simple Present Tense The Simple Present Tense is used to describe facts, habits, routines, and general characteristics.
