Hari's first impression of Bombay was that he was in awe of the urban lifestyle.

When he first wandered in the city, Hari met two people. The coconut man and the beggar.

The coconut man sold Hari a big coconut for 2 rupees.

The coconut man advise Hari about how great the government was and that they were like parents to the citizens.

The beggar told Hari the real truth about the coconut man's night-time business and how dangerous it is in city's night.

Hiralal is the watch man who stand guards the premises of where wealthy people live.

Hari was assisted by Hiralal in finding the De Silvas' house at the foot of the hill.

Before reaching the address, Hari's heart beat covetously with fright and excitement.
