Feedback

The Act was enacted in 1830, authorizing relocation of southeastern tribes.

Andrew Jackson signed the act in 1830, pushing relocation policies.

Tribes from the Southeast were displaced to lands west of the Mississippi.

Relocations moved tribes to designated lands west of the Mississippi, roughly present-day Oklahoma.

The forced removals were later termed the Trail of Tears due to suffering.

The so-called Five Civilized Tribes were targeted: Cherokee, Choctaw, Chickasaw, Creek, Seminole.

The act empowered removal through treaties negotiated with tribes and the U.S. government.

Many tribes faced forced marches, deprivation, and high mortality—the Trail of Tears.

Relocation disrupted homelands, economies, and cultural practices for many communities.

Worcester v. Georgia affirmed tribal sovereignty, but the Act and removals persisted despite the ruling.
