A Rainy Holiday (Traveler)

You booked a 5-day vacation to a tropical island. You imagined sunny beaches, outdoor activities and a sunny weather, but :


  1. It rained every single day
  2. All your tours were cancelled
  3. You spent most of your time indoors
  4. You feel like you wasted your money


You realize:


  • You didn’t check the weather forecast
  • The travel agent never mentioned anything about the rainy season.


During the trip, you call the agency to complain about your stay and demand compensation. For your complaints, try to use conditional statements like: If you had told me about the weather, I would be in a different place right now!

A Rainy Holiday (Travel agent)

Your client is complaining about their travel experience, they say it is a disaster.


You know:


  • The destination is known its rainy weather during this time of year.
  • The client didn’t ask about the season, nor the weather.
  • You gave general information, but maybe not enough details.


In order to handle the situation you should:


  • Respond politely
  • Defend yourself
  • Offer solutions (discount, future trip, advice)


You could try with some conditional sentences, for example :

If you had asked about the weather, I would have told you that ...

The Hotel was Awful! (Traveler)

You booked a hotel recommended by the agency, they even showed you some photos and the place did look amazing. However, when you got there you found out that:


  1. The room was dirty and noisy
  2. The photos online were misleading
  3. The location was rather inconvenient (No shops around, no metro stations around...)
  4. You couldn’t sleep well during your trip because of the bedbugs.
  5. The room was infested with roaches.


You realize:


  • You didn’t read online reviews
  • You trusted the agent’s recommendation completely


During your stay, you call the agency to demand an explanation and a compensation for all the trouble you went through. For your complaints, try to use some conditional sentences like If I had read the reviews, I wouldn’t be in a such horrible place now, If you had been honest, I would be spending my money at a different hotel!

The Hotel was Awful! (Travel agent)

Your client is really unhappy with the hotel you recommended.


You know :


  • The hotel is usually well-rated, but not perfect
  • The client chose a budget option
  • There were better hotels available at a higher price



In order to handle the situation you should:


  • Defend your recommendation
  • Suggest solutions


You could try with some conditional sentences, for example :

If you had chosen a higher budget, you would be staying in a better hotel now, If you had cecked reviews, you might have, If there had been availability, I would have recommended…

Missed Flight Nightmare (Traveler)

You missed your flight and now you are stuck at the airport and you don't know what to do next. What happened was :


  1. You overslept
  2. You didn’t set an alarm
  3. You arrived too late to check in
  4. Now you must pay for a new ticket


You feel really stressed out and frustrated.


Call the agency and try to explain your situation and ask for help. Remember to use some conditional sentences such as : If I had set an alarm, I wouldn’t be… now. If I had left earlier, I would be… now.

Missed Flight Nightmare (Travel agent)

Your client missed their flight.


You know:


  • The agency sent all flight details in advance
  • It is the passenger’s responsibility to arrive on time
  • However, you want to maintain good customer service


In order to handle the situation you should:


  • Show empathy
  • Explain responsibility
  • Offer possible solutions (rebooking, advice)


You could try with some conditional sentences, for example : If you had arrived earlier, you wouldn’t be in this situation now, If you had contacted us before, we could have, If you rebook now, you will…
