Test your phrasal verbs word order.

1

The particle can move to the end of the sentence when the object is a noun (turn on the light / turn the light on).

2

For separable phrasal verbs with a noun object, you can put the object after the particle (turn on the light) or between the verb and the particle (turn the light on).

3

A pronoun object must always come after the particle, never between (e.g., never 'turn it down' is wrong).

4

Non-separable phrasal verbs keep the particle attached to the verb; you generally cannot separate them (look after the kids).

5

The meaning of a phrasal verb never changes when you move the particle (e.g., 'look up' vs 'look up to' always means the same).

6

When the object is a pronoun, place it between the verb and the particle (e.g., turn it down).

7

All phrasal verbs must have the particle immediately next to the verb with no exceptions.

8

In English, the order of the verb and particle is fixed and cannot be rearranged for any phrasal verb.

9

Pronoun objects must not come after the particle in separable phrasal verbs (turn down it is incorrect).

10

Separable phrasal verbs cannot be followed by a noun object (you cannot say 'turn on the light').
