1. What assessment should be

Assessment should be valid, reliable, fair, and transparent, clearly aligning with learning goals and intended outcomes for all students.

2

What is Formative and Summative Assesment

Formative Assessment

The goal here is to monitor student learning and provide ongoing feedback.

Purpose: To improve learning while it’s happening.

Summative Assessment

This evaluates student learning at the end of an instructional period by comparing it against a standard or benchmark.

Purpose: To measure what was learned after the process is over.

3

Validity

Validity means measuring the right thing: the specific knowledge, skills, and competencies the learning objectives require.

Example: If you are testing a student's ability to solve math problems, a valid test asks them to show their work. A test that only asks them to define "Addition" in a long essay would be invalid.

4

Reliability

Reliability ensures consistent results across tasks, raters, and occasions, supporting trustworthy judgments about learner performance.

Example: Using a standardized marking key. Whether Teacher A or Teacher B grades the paper, the student gets the same result.

5

Authenticity

Use authentic, real-world contexts and meaningful tasks to improve relevance and transfer of learning.

6

Practicality

Practicality is the "reality check." You can design the most perfect, in-depth, and valid exam in the world, but if it takes 40 hours to grade or requires a million-dollar laboratory to complete, it isn't practical.

Practicality refers to the efficiency of an assessment in terms of time, money, and resources.

Example: Using Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) sheets for a massive national exam. Grading 1 million essays by hand would be impossible, so a multiple-choice format makes the big-picture assessment "practical."

7

8. Feedback

Provide timely, specific, and constructive feedback that guides next steps and supports self-regulated learning.

Example: Instead of just writing "7/10" on a paper, a teacher writes: "Your argument is strong, but you need to provide more evidence in paragraph three to support your claim."
