Correct (B): Uses softening language ("I would be interested to know") and formal vocabulary ("motivated", "position"). Incorrect (A): Grammatically correct but too direct and slightly aggressive for a formal interview. Incorrect (C): "Want" and "quit" are informal and sound demanding. Incorrect (D): Grammatically incorrect word order in the embedded clause (should be "why you left").

Correct (D): "Unfortunately" shows politeness, and "unable to attend" is standard formal vocabulary. Incorrect (A): Too blunt/rude. Incorrect (C): "Refuse" is very harsh and hostile. Incorrect (B): "Can't make it" is a phrasal verb suitable for friends, not business.

Incorrect (C): "I need" focuses on your needs, not the other person's cooperation. Incorrect (D): "Give me" is very direct and rude in a professional context.
