Recognize common illness symptoms and when to act

por Cristian Marquez
1

Introduction

Illness and symptoms refer to how your body signals that something is not right. Recognizing patterns helps with early care and prevention.

2

Common symptoms

Common symptoms include fever, cough, fatigue, aching muscles, sneezing, runny nose, and sore throat. Not all symptoms mean a serious illness, but they deserve attention.

3

Fever

Fever is a rise in body temperature, signaling infection. Stay hydrated, rest, and monitor using a thermometer. Seek medical advice if high or persistent.

4

Cough

Cough protects airways but persistent or bloody cough requires medical evaluation. Distinguish between dry and productive cough and treat accordingly.

5

Fatigue

Fatigue means extreme tiredness. It can accompany infections, stress, or chronic conditions. Rest, nutrition, and sleep usually help, but persistent fatigue needs assessment.

6

Headache and dizziness

Headache and dizziness may be from dehydration, illness, or stress. Treat with fluids, rest, and check if sudden severe or with vision changes.

7

Skin symptoms

Skin symptoms such as rashes, redness, or swelling can indicate allergies, infections, or conditions needing care. Seek evaluation for rashes spreading or blistering.

8

Common Cold

Cold symptoms often include runny nose, coughing, sore throat, sneezing, mild fever, and mild fatigue. Recovery typically occurs within a week or two.

9

Influenza (Flu)

Flu presents with high fever, body aches, headache, fatigue, dry cough, and sometimes vomiting. Symptoms are usually more severe and sudden than a cold.

10

Allergies

Allergies cause sneezing, itchy eyes, runny nose, nasal congestion, and sometimes itchy throat. Symptoms worsen with exposure to triggers like pollen or dust.

11

Headache & Migraine

Migraine involves intense headache, nausea, sensitivity to light or sound, and sometimes visual disturbances. Triggers vary; rest and quiet help relief.

12

Food Poisoning

Food poisoning causes nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea after contaminated meals. Symptoms appear within hours to a day and require hydration.

13

Cough and chest symptoms

A cough can be dry or productive. It helps expel irritants, but a persistent cough may indicate infection or allergy that requires care.

14

Sore throat

A sore throat feels painful when swallowing. It can accompany colds, flu, or allergies and may cause hoarseness or irritation.

15

Headache and body aches

Headache and body pains are common with infections. Different types include tension headaches and migraines, affecting concentration and comfort.

16

Stomach issues

A stomach ache with nausea can occur with infections or gastro upset. Rest, light fluids, and careful eating usually help.

17

Diarrhea and dehydration

Diarrhea means watery stools. It can lead to dehydration, so rehydration with fluids and electrolytes is important, especially for kids and seniors.
