Feedback

Integumentary system involves skin, hair, and nails.

The dermis is the layer just below the epidermis, which is the outermost layer of the skin.

Your epidermis has protein molecules called melanin in it. Melanin filters out and protects skin from sunlight. The amount of melanin in your epidermis determines your skin color. The more melanin you have the darker your skin. Freckles are caused by small patches of melanin.

The function of the urinary system is to remove waste and toxins from the bloodstream and to maintain a fluid balance homeostasis in the body.

(1) The pancreas decreases the acidity of food coming out of your stomach. (2) It makes chemicals that help break down food molecules. (3) It makes hormones like insulin and glucagon to regulate blood sugar levels.

The small intestine breaks down the digestible parts of the food that is eaten into protein, carbohydrate, lipid, and vitamin molecules and minerals small enough for your body to absorb. Most absorption occurs in the small intestine.

Sweat glands produce sweat, which helps maintain body temperature and, therefore, homeostasis.

Your liver filters out harmful wastes, stores vitamins and glucose, and sends the molecules to your cells.

Saliva contains chemicals that break down carbohydrates. Saliva flows from salivary glands into your mouth.

After the digestible part of food leaves the small intestine, the indigestible part of food goes to the large intestine. The large intestine extracts water and more vitamins from the remaining food.

The epidermis is the outermost layer of the skin, providing a protective barrier against pathogens, UV radiation, and chemicals.
