This is my first time here, in Barranquilla's carnival. I'm so excited¡ Jacinto Welcome! I'm Jacinto. I'm excited too¡ Finally, I can meet you in person Alex Yes, it is great! I can see the carnival has started. I see people filling the streets with bright colors, masks, dances, music, and so much more, even at the airport entrance. Jacinto No, it’s not Carnival yet. We, the people from the coast, celebrate early. Also, companies get involved and use the traditional celebration to promote their products and services. Alex I got it. Jacinto Barranquilla’s Carnival starts this Saturday and lasts for four days. The first event is the Battle of Flowers, the Carnival’s iconic opening parade. The Queen, together with King Momo, parades on a floral float, followed by dance groups (comparsas), people wearing costumes and masks, and many carnival bands. It's so colorful and bright. Alex That sounds amazing¡ Are tickets expensive? Jacinto No, they aren’t. There are many free events, especially near La Troja, an emblematic salsa and carnival music spot in Barranquilla. People from abroad really enjoy going there. It’s an outdoor place, with colorful decorations and loud music. Alex I can't wait to go there and dance all night long¡ Jacinto Hold your horses, Alex. You need to save your energy for the days ahead. Alex Tell me more, what is coming next?
