It sheds its skin several times to accommodate its growing body. 6 Eating Different Foods The caterpillar eats a variety of foods, including strawberries, oranges, and even a slice of cake! It becomes very full and satisfied. 7 Feeling Full After eating a lot, the caterpillar feels full and sleepy. It prepares for its next stage of transformation. 8 The Cocoon Stage The caterpillar forms a cocoon around itself, called a chrysalis.
