The Day the Power Went Out
Last Saturday evening, Emma was cooking dinner when the power suddenly went out. She had planned a special meal for her parents, who had recently returned from a long trip. While she was preparing the dessert, everything in the house went dark. At first, Emma was frightened, but then she remembered that she had some candles in the kitchen drawer.

She lit a few candles and continued cooking. The kitchen looked peaceful and cozy in the candlelight. Her younger brother, Tom, came downstairs because he was scared of the dark. Emma comforted him and gave him a warm blanket. They waited together until the power came back.

Since that night, Emma has kept a flashlight and extra batteries ready. She has also learned to stay calm in unexpected situations. Although the evening didn’t go as she had expected, her family still enjoyed the dinner, and they even laughed about the whole experience.
