There are 24 administrative regions and the Crimean autonomous republic in Ukraine. The geographical position of Ukraine is very favourable to the development of its relations with countries of Europe as well as with the countries through the world. 2 The territory of Ukraine is more than six hundred thousand square kilometers. Two such countries as Italy can be placed on its territory. Ukraine occupies the 42nd place in the world as to its territory being the largest country in Western Europe. The geographical centre of Europe is located near the small Ukrainian town Rakhiv. The population is about 48 million people. 3 Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine. It is very ancient and beautiful. 95% of the Ukrainian area is flat and the rest of it is mountainous. The Ukrainian Carpathians, with the highest peak Hoverla and the Crimean Mountains with the highest peak is Roman Kosh make up 5% of its area. Ukraine is washed by the Black Sea and the sea of Azov and it has very important ports. The sea of Azov is the world's most shallow sea. 4 There are 71,000 rivers in Ukraine. The major rivers are the Dnipro, the Dnister, the Bug, the Donets and others. The Dnipro is one of the longest European rivers and one country's main sources of hydroelectric power. It divides Ukraine into two parts: Right Bank and Left Bank Ukraine. 5 Ukraine has many industrial raw materials. It has rich depositions of iron, metals, coal, oil, gas and other natural resources. The country has metallurgical and heavy industries. It is the agricultural country. 6 Ukraine has an ancient history. It has its own original culture and arts. Scientists of Ukraine make a great contribution in our and world science. The economical potential of our country is great. It has close ties with Eastern Europe and Western Europe. Ukraine is one of the members of the United Nations Organization and participates in the work of many international organizations. It establishes new relations with countries throughout the world.
