DC and ACVersión en línea Select the concepts associated with DC and AC. por Yanet Rivero 1 DIRECT CURRENT 2 ALTERNATING CURRENT 3 SINGLE-PHASE CURRENT 4 THREE-PHASE CURRENT Produced in batteries and dynamos. Constant intensity and direction. Circulates from positive to negative pole of generator. Abbreviated as DC in english and CC in spanish. Can be stored in batteries to be used anywhere and anytime. Its transport via cable is subject to very high losses. Is produced in electrical power stations. Periodically changes intensity and direction. Is abbreviated as AC in English and CA in Spanish. AC generators are easier to make, cheaper and need less maintenance. The transport via cable has few losses thanks to the high voltage. Can be easily turned into DC. It is the AC that arrives to our homes. A single electrical signal is transmitted by the cable called PHASE. A single electrical signal returns by the cable called NEUTRAL, that closes the circuit. Colours: blue for NEUTRAL and black, brown or grey for PHASE. In Spain, uses a voltage of 230 V and a frequency of 50 Hz. It is a system of three connected AC currents, produced simultaneously in the same generator. PHASE conductor contains 3 cables differentiated by colours: black, brown and grey. Has a single NEUTRAL returns cable wich colour is blue. 230 V between PHASES and NEUTRAL and 380 V between two different PHASES. The frequency is also 50 Hz. The distribution network is cheaper because the conductive cables are thinner.
