Tolkien's
fantasy
epic
The
Return
of
the
King
,
Frodo
Baggins
is
confronted
with
a
monster
straight
from
many
people's
nightmares
:
Shelob
,
an
evil
creature
in
the
form
of
an
spider
.
Shelob
isn't
the
only
spider
villain
from
movies
and
books
.
In
fact
,
it's
common
to
see
spiders
cast
as
wicked
,
and
they're
not
alone
.
Rats
,
snakes
,
and
wolves
are
also
frequently
as
being
inherently
evil
.
Examples
include
Voldemort's
snake
Nagini
from
the
Harry
Potter
books
,
as
well
as
countless
from
myths
,
fairy
tales
,
and
literature
.
In
most
cases
,
these
have
been
around
for
a
long
time
,
and
there's
generally
a
good
explanation
for
why
they
.
Early
humans
quickly
learned
that
encounters
with
snakes
and
spiders
were
painful
and
potentially
.
Thus
,
humans
evolved
a
healthy
fear
of
both
animals
as
a
survival
mechanism
.
We
fear
rats
because
they
carry
diseases
,
and
larger
like
wolves
because
they
threaten
our
livestock
?
and
us
,
under
certain
.
As
a
result
,
many
people
feel
that
these
animals
are
disgusting
,
dangerous
,
and
to
be
avoided
at
all
.
Of
course
,
no
animal
is
truly
cruel
or
evil
.
Many
will
attack
if
they
are
surprised
,
or
if
they
feel
that
their
offspring
or
their
is
under
threat
.
While
these
animals
certainly
can
be
dangerous
,
they're
only
doing
what
they
need
to
do
to
.
In
fact
,
many
are
fulfilling
an
important
role
in
nature
.
Spiders
,
for
example
,
a
number
of
pests
that
would
otherwise
bother
humans
to
a
much
greater
degree
,
such
as
flies
and
mosquitoes
.
So
,
instead
of
these
animals
as
villains
,
we
should
respect
every
creature
and
its
place
in
the
world
.
