The cinema has always been an important part of American culture . The French brothers Auguste and Louis invented moving pictures , but America created the cinema .
In 1914 a district in Los Angeles called became the centre of the film industry . At that time films were , but they were very popular and cinemas were opening all over the country . Between 1905 and 1907 4000 cinemas opened across America . Americans loved going to the cinema or , as they say , going to the 'movies' Some people realized they could make a lot of money from films , so they opened big film studios in Hollywood . In 1927 the' arrived . These exciting new movies with talking and music made the cinema more popular than ever before ! Big studios , like MGM and , made the firms and they also owned the cinemas , so they became very rich . Today , some of these big studios still dominate the American film industry . They now produce - big , expensive films with famous actors and excellent special effects . Some examples of famous blockbusters include Avatar , and the Harry Potter films . These films are usually very expensive to make , but they make a lot of money for the studios , too .
America made the movies famous . But movies have made America famous , too ! City , for example , as appeared in lots of films and visitors here should always see some of the city's iconic movie locations . This is the State Building . it opened in 1931 . It became famous all over the world two years later when it appeared in King Kong , one of the most famous films of all time .
