The first computer games
We have played computer games for about 60 years, and now games are very sophisticated. But did you know that the first computer game was a version of tic-tac-toe? It was in black and white, and it was very simple. A scientist called Albert Douglas designed it in 1952.
In 1962, an American computer engineer created ‘Space War!’ His name was Steve Russell. He loved reading science-fiction books, so he wanted to invent the first science-fiction game. It was an amazing invention in 1962.
Nowadays, most young people enjoy playing games at home on their computers or cell phones, but in the 1970s and 1980s, teenagers didn’t have computers.
Playing Games
I hate playing games with my family! They always want to play board games or card games when we have a big event like a birthday party. My younger brother is better than me at cards. Every time I play with him, I lose. It’s so annoying! My older sister always cheats at cards. She always looks at the other players’ cards. But board games are not much better. My dad takes too long to roll the dice. The game takes hours. My Grandpa is not much fun to play with because he always gives up if he doesn’t know the answer. It’s more fun to play with my friends.
