observed in children under 2, esp newborns
exfoliative toxin causing skin to peel off
treatment: antibiotic therapy
due to highly absorbent tampons
symptoms due to superantigens
due to nasal packing
thin-walled vesicles on the skin that rupture and later crust over; children under 2
causes fever, vomiting, sunburn-like rash, shock, and sometimes organ failure (kidney)
1st observed as lesion around nose and mouth; develops into red areas and spreads; within 48 hours affected areas peel off when touched
