Soccer is a field game between two teams of up to 11 players. 3 Purpose of the Game The purpose of the game is to make goals by dribbling, heading, or volleying the ball into the opponent’s goal while defending the teams own goal from opponents. 4 How to Play The ball is put into play at the beginning of the game when a player kicks the ball into the opponent’s half of the field at a distance of at least the circumference of the ball. The kicking player may not kick the ball twice in a row. 5 Advancing Ball Once the ball is in play, each team tries to advance the ball toward the opponent’s goal to score by dribbling and passing it down the field. 6 Typical Play Players are free to play the ball in any direction during play.
