Interviewer : Good morning and welcome to our studio !

Grandfather : Good morning and thank you for having me !

Interviewer : We have a lot to talk about , so let ? s begin . What did you see and feel during your journeys through the city that night ?

Grandfather : I ? d seen the elephant earlier that evening near the while returning from visiting patients , and I was moved by its condition . The soldiers who found it must have been kind - hearted to bring it in rather than leave it to . As Natalia and I walked through the streets , it felt surreal . The city was so silent ? not even the sound of sirens or rats in the bins . Everything was dark , with lightless windows and a dying street lamp flickering in the distance . The streets were empty , lifeless ? signs of neglect everywhere , like the abandoned shops and a sleeping in the cold . It made me think of how much the war had taken from us .
But at the same time , it was peaceful , almost . The hazy moon lit everything up just enough , and it felt like we were the only ones in the entire city . That sense of stillness made the moment even more meaningful , like it was ours alone to witness .

Interviewer : Oh , how interesting . What do you remember of your granddaughter ? s behaviour and reactions that night ?

Grandfather : At first , Natalia my instructions without question , though she was half asleep as I had woken her up so suddenly . She trusted me , even though I ? d been away all day , and it was her . But as we walked , she started falling and eventually stopped , demanding to know where we were going . She even raised her , and I had to remind her to keep quiet ? it was a moment we could have missed if we weren ? t careful .
When she finally saw the , everything changed . She was amazed . We stood there , hand in hand , watching as it moved down the street . It was a precious for us both . But then , when she said , ? No one will believe this , ? I was disappointed she didn ? t immediately realise it wasn ? t about telling others ? it was about keeping it as our secret , something special just for us .

Interviewer : Of course , what a precious thing to . What were your reasons for taking your granddaughter out that night , and what do you think she gained from the experience ?

Grandfather : It was her birthday , and I knew I had to give her something . I didn ? t tell her where we were going because I wanted it to be a surprise , an adventure we could share . Seeing the elephant was a gift ? she got to experience it before anyone else , even before the other children in the city . I also wanted her to the beauty in moments like that , to find hope even in the darkest times .
The elephant , with its quiet strength and dignity , was a symbol of , and I hoped it would inspire her . It was a chance for us to share something meaningful , a memory that would last . In the end , it wasn ? t just about seeing the elephant ? it was about showing her that there ? s more to life than the of the present .
