ADVERBS OF FREQUENCY

We use some adverbs to describe how frequently we do an activity.

These are called adverbs of frequency and include:

ALWAYS

USUALLY

NORMALLY

OFTEN

SOMETIMES

OCCASIONALLY

SELDOM

HARDLY EVER

NEVER

The Position of the Adverb in a Sentence

An adverb of frequency goes before a main verb (except with To Be).


Subject + adverb + main verb

I always remember to do my homework.

He normally gets good marks in exams.


An adverb of frequency goes after the verb To Be.


Subject + to be + adverb

They are never pleased to see me.

She isn't usually bad tempered.

George Smith lives in London. His 55, and he is a teacher.

This is a Typical day in his life.

He gets up at 7:45 and has a shower.

He has breakfast at 8:00.

He always  has coffee and fruits for breakfast.

He lives home at 8:20.

He goes to work by bus.

He has lunch (a soda and a sanduwich at 1:30).

He leaves work at 7:00.

He sometimes buys a pizza and eats it at home.

He gets home at 7:45
