Explanation

When we list things in the past we tend to use the simple past.

The snow happened first therefore this action is indicated in the past perfect.

The past perfect continuous is used to emphasise an ongoing action in the past. The realisation came after.

The future perfect is used for predicting events that will (or won't) have happened by a certain point in the future.

The past continuous action (rifling through the pages) was interrupted by the fact that he saw what he was looking for.

Depending on your interpretation of the event, and the fact that no time clause is given, it could be argued that any of the tenses are applicable.

Both continuous actions were happening in the past simultaneously.

This is an example of the 3rd (unreal) conditional: a combination of the past perfect and would + present perfect
