Biodiversity speciation apes ecology

por Billie Jean Warta
1

a variation in a plant or animal that increases its chance of survival in its environment; trait improved individual's fitness

2

speciation occurring due to geographic isolation of the same species population;

3

one species evolves into two species without geographic isolation; usually due to polyploidism (having more than 2 sets of chromosomes)

4

evolution resulting in creation of new species, genera, families, classes or phyla; large scale evolution occuring at level of species and above.

5

disturbance reduces large population randomly to small population of individuals not reflecting original genetic diversity; resulting pop. has less genetic diversity

6

change in allele frequency that can be seen within a population; small scale change

7

species which is found only in a particular isolated & usually small geographical spot on Earth

8

species which greatly effects its ecosystem; impact is disproportionate to population size of keystone species

9

threatened or endangered location that is highly diversified; many are endemic species

10

animal or plant in an ecosystems which illustrates the enviromental condition of that ecosystem; usually one sensitive to change in ecological conditions

11

species capable of living under a wide range of conditions (biotic or abiotic)

12

species that live under a small range of biotic or abiotic conditions

13

1st species to colonize bare rock or barren soil; example - moss or lichen

14

final stage of succession in ecological community where population can remain stable

15

progressive development of community from initial stage until climax community is established (predictable stages).

16

sequence of events occurring after community is disturbed by natural disaster. Usually soil & nutrients ; area is regrown with plants & animals until reaching a climax community.

17

development of community in environment where no organisms have previously lived (bare rock or soil)

18

farming (breeding, raising, and harvesting) aquatic plants, fish and shellfish

19

organisms have varying abilities to survive and reproduce

20

study of species symbiosis, eveness and richness on islands

21

measurement of biological variation of particular traits within a population

22

measurement of different species located in a region / ecosystem or habitat

23

diversity of an environment shown by number of different species of plants and animals
