This technique is composed of long, smooth strokes. It is often used at the beginning of a massage in order to ease into the other techniques, and could be thought of as a “warm-up” for your body. Often, when performed at a slow speed, it helps the patient to become relaxed and it begins to tell the nervous system that it is ok for the body to let go of tension and tightness.

2

Another word for "tapotement"

3

A massage technique in the petrissage category that involves circular movements where tissues are lifted, rolled and squeezed in a compressive action.

4

A manipulation that involves applying pressure with the ball of the thumb or fingers to the patient`s skin and muscle.

5

A light and fast movement performed with the side of hands. Both hands are used to strike muscle areas alternately. This technique is primarily used to stimulate both the nervous and the circulatory system.

6

A percussive technique that involves a series of light, brisk, striking actions applied with clenched fists. It is used to stimulate muscles before exercise.

7

The act of applying pressure on or over someone's skin; used to refer to the different massage techniques.
