The Way of St James

Is the pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia in northwestern Spain, where tradition has it that the remains of the apostle Saint James are buried. Its origin is in 813 when a hermit found a tomb in Galicia that he identified as the tomb of Santiago.

Pre-Romanesque art

In Spain pre- Romanesque art could be seen in Asturian and Mozarabic art.

-Asturian art developed between the end of the eighth century and the beginning of the tenth century in the Kingdom of Asturias. Important examples are:the Santa María del Naranco palace and the church of San Miguel de Lillo.

-Mozarabic art of mixed Arab-Spanish heritage made by the Mozarabs, the Christians under the Islamic rule. From 711 to the end of the 11th century. Important examples are: San Miguel de Escalada (León) and San Cebrián de Mazote (Valladolid).
