The geographic and political scene

 

-STATES:

At its centre France and the HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE

The normans from the north extended their dominions to other areas of Europe, they stopped their attact in the 11th century

The muslims in the south and east disputd the territories in the Iberian Peninsula.

-POLITICAL CHANGES:

   -Royal power: consolidated thanks to th peple in the cities and in Exchange the King gave privileges to cities

   -Parliments: political assemblies formed by represntatives of th noblity, the clergy andthe cities

Agricultural expansion

MOULDBOARD PLOUGH: The roman plough was replaced by the mouldboard plough that washevier and allowed more air into the soil

THREE YEARS CROP ROTATION: the land was divided into 3 parts; one was planted with cereals, other withh pulses and the las one was left fallow.

Thesechanges led to a revival in tradeand more cities emerged.

The urban renaissence

From the 11th century onwards cities and towns which had almost been abandon were revived,the main cause was the increase in agricultural production.

Charter or fuero: is the name of the document in which the city´s rights and privileges were set down

Thegoverment of the city would be in hands of a COMMUNITY COUNCIL

Society and daily life

Medieval towns  where not large, but they became important centres of economic, administrative and cultural activities. A new social group called bourgeoisia or middle class emerged.

Social división in urban society depended more on wealth tan on nobility or birth.

Urban patriate: was a small, wealthy, rulling class

Commons: was a non rulling class ( free people )

Religion and culture

-MEDIEVAL RELIGION:

Heresey was one of that the problems the Church had to deal with. Some special tribunals called Inquisitions were estabilished to judge and punish people

-CRUSADES: they were military expeditions that the pope organised with the help of Chritian kings

It was developed in europe in the 12th and the 15th century .

-ARCHITECTURE: Pointed arch, The ribbed vault, Flying buttreses and latin cross plan

-SCULPTURE AND PAINTING: it was more realisticand the theme was usually religious the New Testament

-THE CRISIS OF THE 14th CENTURY: 

 Because of Wars, Fmine and The black death

Causes: Population dropped, Economy suffered a recession since agricultural production and various social conflicts
