por Javier López
1 A large landform that is higher than the surrounding land. A mountain range is a continuous chain of mountains. 2 An area of land lower than the surrounding area. Sometimes, a basin is formed from the erosive action of a river. In other cases, they are the result of shifting tectonic plates. 3 A flat area of land at an altitude above sea level. 4 An area of sea surrounded by land on three sides. It forms the shape of an arc. A bay is similar but smaller. 5 A large open area of flat or slightly undulating land. 6 The undersea extension of a continent that descends gradually to depths of around 400 metres. They can extend for many kilometres out to sea. 7 A steep underwater area that links the continental shelf with the ocean floor. 8 A piece of land completely surrounded by water. 9 A group of islands close together form an 10 A flat area of ocean floor, found at depths of between 3 000 and 7 000 metres. 11 A long basin on the ocean floor that often reaches depths of 6 000 metres, and sometimes 11 000 metres. 12 A large underwater mountain range. 13 Part of the land that projects out into the sea. 14 A thin channel of water that goes inland from the sea. Inlets created by glaciation are called fjords and are usually found on mountainous coastlines. 15 A large piece of land surrounded by water on three sides. A peninsula is connected to land by a thin stretch of land called an isthmus. 16 A valley is a long basin in the land. A river valley is V-shaped due to the action of a river running through it. Glacial valleys are U-shaped because they have been formed by a moving glacier.
