El condicional de tipo 2 o segundo condicional en inglés se utiliza para expresar una situación hipotética, irreal o poco probable en el presente que hace referencia en muchas ocasiones a un deseo o un sueño.

En este caso, la cláusula "if" adopta el pasado simple mientras que el resultado está formado por “would” + infinitivo. Como en el caso de todos los condicionales, se puede modificar el orden de las partes sin alterar su significado.

Aunque algunos nativos dicen If I was…, ¡tú no! Está mal. Es como decir haiga en español. Lo correcto es usar siempre were para todas las personas gramaticales con el verbo to be en estos casos.
