The writer and the reader do not have contact in time and space. Reading is possible at any time and any speed. Use of topic sentences, paragraphs, units, conventional rules of grammar, formal and precise vocabulary. Never repeat anybody else’s ideas or words without acknowledgment. It should be clear because immediate feedback is not possible. Something cannot be changed once it is written. There is no room for fillers, repetitions and redundancy. The idea of an audience generates contact.
