
Karla Florez
Master in Applied Linguistics to the Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language from Jaen University, Spain. She was born in Barranquilla, Colombia where she grew up and went to get a University Degree in Social Communications – Journalism at Universidad Autonoma del Caribe, in Barranquilla, Colombia. She also have Certificates in several areas of Contemporary Dance, obtained in B/quilla and Bogota, Colombia as well as in Cuba where she studied for a period of her life. This training added to her initial participation since early age in the folkloric dances from the yearly Barranquilla’s Carnaval. She has studied Dalcroze Methodology at Robert Abramson Dalcroze Institute at Juilliard School in NYC. She´s developing a “Spanish Through the Arts” program, at Our Lady Of the Angelus School, Queens, and St. Theresse of Liseiux School, Brooklyn. She was music and movement and dance teacher at PACONY, NY, Queens. She has written five children’s books that combine the different areas that she works with such as dance and music. The five titles are: El gusano verde, Las marimondas, Clap & Shhh, La eñe que sueña, La noche y el sueño. And Danza recuentos y reflexiones and her recent book Somos Cumbia, somos familia.
