Deforestation

Period during which rivers and streams reach their lowest flow.

A process of soil degradation in arid, semi-arid and sub-humid areas through which it loses its productivity due to the destruction of plant cover and erosion, until it progressively becomes a desert. It can be related to natural or anthropic factors.

A river valley that, at its mouth, is flooded by seawater due to the sinking of the coastline, a rise in the sea level or both phenomena at the same time.

Process of destruction of the forest canopy by felling or fire.

An area of accumulation of fluvial sediments that forms at the mouth of some rivers when the tides are weak and the accumulation of alluvium exceeds erosion.

Open mouth of a river as it meets the sea, funnel-shaped, in which the seawater penetrates. It is affected by the tides and sea swells, as the river’s freshwater interacts with the sea’s saltwater.
